Join DBSA on World Bipolar Day for a powerful and intimate creative writing workshop led by Sherri Levine, an award-winning poet, creative writing teacher, and mental health advocate.
Sherri lives in Portland, Oregon, and facilitates expressive writing groups through the DBSA Portland chapter. Her approach creates a supportive space for reflection, self-expression, and healing.
This special World Bipolar Day workshop will blend personal storytelling, guided writing prompts, and a conversation about how writing can support mental health. Sherri will share her own journey living with bipolar disorder and how writing helped her navigate some of the most challenging moments in her life.
Whether you write regularly or are brand new to expressive writing, this workshop is designed for anyone who wants to explore creativity as a tool for emotional well‑being.

About Sherri Levine: Sherri Levine is a poet, mental health advocate, and squirrel lover who lives in Portland, Oregon. She spent 25 years teaching English to immigrants and refugees at colleges and universities. She is the recent recipient of the Patricia Ruth Banta Award which recognizes a significant contribution to Oregon poetry by the Oregon Poetry Association. She has won numerous poetry awards and has written three poetry books: Stealing Flowers from the Neighbors, A Joy to See, and I Remember Not Sleeping which is dedicated to those dealing with mental illness. She has an anthology coming out next year, Waking in the Blue: Poetry & Essays about Mental Health, which asked poets from all over the world how does their mental health affects their poetry. She believes writing saves lives, as it has continued to save hers. She teaches creative writing classes and poetry at a neighborhood center. She has created and facilitated local and national writing groups for DBSA—Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance where she is on the board as Community Outreach Director.
