Dr. Paul Barker was training to be a surgeon and help others while he secretly fought his battle with depression. He was bright, with a sharp mind and wit, and brought smiles to those around him. Most people who knew him had no clue he suffered from depression. He once said he had more good days than bad days, but his bad days could be really bad. He rarely shared about his low mood days because he felt selfish doing so, and ultimately decided to end the bad days and seek peace through death. We ask that anyone wishing to give in memory of Paul do so here with the hopes that we can help someone else win in their battle and find happiness every day.

Michelle courageously lived with depression for most of her 49 years of life. She was actively involved in her local DBSA – New Orleans chapter as both a board member and a facilitator at the meetings. Michelle was generous, supportive and honest about her struggles and her victories. She loved her DBSA friends and persevered in attending meetings regardless of her ups and downs. Michelle was a blessing and ray of hope to everyone she met. She will be treasured in our hearts forever.

Mike and Bobby suffered with bipolar disorder and depression for most of their lives. Bobby succumbed to his disorder in November 2014, while Michael was able to hold on until February 2017. Mental health is one of the most important things that people take for granted. The United States does not have systems in place to support those with mental health issues. Let’s give to those who need support and treatment for one of the most common ailments in this country. In memory of Mike and Bobby.

We lost our beloved, thoughtful, generous Lisa on May 14, 2015. She lived life as a go-getter, and nothing ever got in her way. She was passionate about creating memories with her family, recording those memories in scrapbooking, caring for her dogs, doing yoga and bettering herself and others through her work with Landmark Education. She enjoyed swimming, gardening and rock climbing. She took every opportunity to give to others around her with her kindness and generosity. Our beautiful Lisa will be missed by the countless people whose lives she touched.

For those who didn’t know my older brother Enrique Carbia V, also referred to by many as Ricky, he was a loving and devoted son and grandson, an admired brother, and loyal friend. For those who did know him, he was a light in all of our lives. Ricky was many things to many people. Throughout his life he gave everyone he knew an abundant amount of love, humor, and joy that will remain in many hearts forever. ‘Little Ricky’ made some of our hardest days our best days. He brought laughter and positive feelings wherever he was, and never failed to fill the room with his bright spirit. When he stepped into a room, everyone’s mood shifted. He had a presence that was deeply felt when he was there, and well noted when he wasn’t. Even though he always had the biggest smile wherever he went, like many people, he had his demons. When Ricky was 16 years old, he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Although he never let others see the roller coaster taking place in his mind, it had taken a toll on his life. With being diagnosed, came a variety medications and treatment options. However, Ricky did not like the way they made him feel. He constantly felt as though he was never himself on them. With this, he took it upon himself to explore different methods of self-medication. On Wednesday, January 4th, 2017, Ricky celebrated his 33rd birthday. That following weekend, we received the news that he was no longer with us. These past few weeks have taken a serious toll on all of his loved ones, however, many of us live with the regret that that something could have done to help him cope with the effects of bipolar disorder. Ricky was too young, and loved life more than anyone. He had so many things that he wanted to accomplish, but was unable to stop his mind from taking over. In honor of Enrique Carbia V, his family and friends would like to raise money to help those like him to cope with bipolar disorder.

Jared Gagnon was a runner, coach, mentor and an amazing friend. But what many people didn’t know is that he struggled with Bipolar & Depression disorder. Like many with this disorder, on the outside Jared displayed a happy and cheerful demeanor so you would never know that Jared suffered on the inside. Running helped keep Jared in a daily routine as well as contribute to his niche of friends and the people he made a huge impact on. Jared was an unbelievable running coach and mentor in the Sacramento running community because he gave his whole heart to everyone. He will always be loved and missed by all that were fortunate enough to know him.

I RUN

When I run, I am free
I leave everything behind me
My mind is peaceful, my heart is open
There is no pain, no fear, no agony
All of the good in my world starts to surface
The friends, the family, the love and laughter
It all takes over me
When I run I am free

Do What Makes You Happy
Be With Who Makes You Smile
Laugh As Much As You Breathe
Love As Long As You Live…..and Run

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved sister and daughter, Payal Patel. Payal struggled with severe depression for a long time. She was strong enough to never let it interfere with the care and love that she had for her friends, loved ones and community, but recently she lost her battle. We will miss her tremendously. Payal’s struggle is also something millions of other individuals share. She would have wanted to impart upon the world a greater awareness of mental health issues and the resources available to those who struggle with the disease of depression. In lieu of flowers and cards, please consider donating to this memorial page. Our family is grateful for all the love and support during this difficult time.

Our beloved father Wilson Sharif was an amazing soul whose enthusiasm for life was incomparable to most.

As elevated as his highs were, he struggled deeply with the lows. In the U.S. alone, each year almost 15 million adults are suffering from major depressive disorder.
Tragically for our father, he was not able to overcome his final low.

In lieu of flowers we ask that you donate to the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance. Wilson’s spirit and laughter will be kept alive through our efforts to increase awareness about mental illness and to raise money for education, research, and support.
