
LaGenia Bailey is a mental health professional, researcher, educator, and advocate dedicated to amplifying the voices of those with lived experience of mental health conditions. She serves as Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy and Medicine, directing the Treatment Resistant Schizophrenia Research Program, Movement Disorders Clinic, and Psychopharmacology Consult, and advising on strategic planning.
With over 25 years in the pharmaceutical industry, including leadership roles at Bristol Myers Squibb and Sunovion Pharmaceuticals, LaGenia has advanced patient engagement, built partnerships with national mental health organizations, and advocated on Capitol Hill for DBSA and NAMI. She is a passionate champion for expanding peer support services, believing that peer support saves lives.
An accomplished motivational speaker, musician, and storyteller, LaGenia has presented for The Moth, spoken on mental health and the neuroplasticity of singing, and performed on stages from concert halls to lecture halls—finding joy wherever she can connect, educate, and inspire.
