A peer specialist is someone who has lived experience with trauma, mood, and/or substance use challenges, and is open to sharing their journey. They offer support to others on their path to wellness. In addition to pursuing a career, some individuals choose to take the course to enhance their mental health. The DBSA Peer Specialist Course is a pioneering learning experience with 20+ years of history. DBSA is one of the world’s most trusted organizations, having trained over 1,000 peer specialists over the past few decades.

DBSA is thrilled to offer our first scholarship fund!

There is a gap between mental health professionals and those in need of help, and DBSA is dedicated to closing that gap. By training certified peer specialists, we empower individuals to use their personal experiences to help others in similar situations, making a direct impact in their communities. Part of closing that gap is removing financial barriers for individuals who want to use their experience to help others.

Who are the donors?

Kent and Liz Dauten have been dedicated supporters of DBSA and other organizations focused on bipolar disorder for many years. Their generosity makes a significant impact on the bipolar community by funding efforts that ensure research is conducted on innovative treatments for bipolar disorder.

A mentee of Kent, Nick Savasta made the inaugural donation to create this fund to honor the amazing work the Dauten family continues to do. Thanks to Nick’s thoughtful donation, we can provide free training for 25 peer specialists!
