Our beloved son and brother, Late Vivek Amrut Patel (1985 - 2009) of Cranston, RI, went to his final resting place at very tender age of 23 on February 22, 2009.
Born on October 28, 1985, in Norwood, MA, to Amrut and Champa Patel, he was the younger of two children. He was a 2003 graduate of Moses Brown School, Providence, RI and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2008 with an Economics major. He was employed as a Strategy Analyst at Digitas Inc. in New York, NY.
He fought a losing battle against a paralyzing mental condition Bipolar Disorder for the past several years. In spite of ongoing professional help, this dreadful disease sapped vital energy out of his life and eventually he succumbed.
Despite this ongoing struggle, he always projected cheerfulness, kindness and sensitivity to those came in contact with him. The Faculty Award he received from his school read: “Perhaps more than anything else, we will remember you for the way you notice other people’s feelings.” He was an inspiration to many and earned numerous awards for his untiring volunteerism.
A volunteer to the core, helping others gave him the ultimate joy. He championed causes such as awareness and outreach for mental illnesses and AIDS and HIV. This past year he helped organize a formal AIDS gala fundraiser in Philadelphia that raised over $8,000 for AIDS research. For two summers, he was a camp counselor at Camp Safe Haven, a camp for young children with AIDS. He collaborated with fellow Management 100 Team members to promote and increase readership of a community service magazine.
His belief in principles of nonviolence had led him to observe strict vegetarianism.
Deeply spiritual, he had recently joined Calvary Episcopal Church in New York City.
He leaves behind a legacy of selfless service in spite of the many challenges he faced during his short visit to the planet Earth. If we remember him for nothing other than his example of selflessly serving others, his legacy will not be lost.
This is a memory of Vivek that we will always love and cherish. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-Nuxp4htDU

Amrut Bhai, Champa Ben, Ronak and Ba,
We very sincerely hope God gives you all the strength to face this tragedy as he gives strength to all of us to come in terms with this news. Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we feel. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and with Vivek, wherever he is.
We can all relate to you as we all send our kids out in the independent world. We all remember Vivek as a community helper just like his Dad working to make the world a better place.
Here is a message for all of us: What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.

It is a shock to see that we have lost Vivek. Words truly cannot express this bright light of a human who worked tirelessly to change the world around him. He was deeply involved for several years with Safe Haven Project and involved me personally in both Moses Brown and when he was at UPENN. (He also brought me to get the BEST steak sandwich I have had to date even though he was vegetarian.) Wherever it is that spirits such as his go - I am certain his light will continue to shine brightly although perhaps in a different form. Vivek was loved by the kids in our project and also all of the staff and community members he met along the way. We will remember him at our camp this year during our annual rememberence celebration on the cliffs of Aquinnah on Martha's Vineyard.
Deepest condolences to his family and all who loved him.

To the family of Vivek Patel,
Please know that Vivkek touched the hearts of the people he worked with at Digitas. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word to say. vivek never hesitated to volunteer to help and participate in company outreach programs and activites. I met him first as an intern and was impressed by his warm spirt and inquisitveness. It's so hard to believe he has left us. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Sincerely,
Judy Jackson

No amount of words will be able to describe the terrible tragedy epitomised in the sudden and untimely demise of Vivek. Vivek was a wonderfully promising youngman who had a great potetial to make a great contribution to make this world a better place to live for all. It is indeed a matter of great sorrow that such a promising career got cut short by a mental condition and with all the resources at our command we could do nothing to save him.It is a great loss of mankind in general and our community in particular.Vivek will be remembered for ever by all those who have had the good fortune to be associated with him. We will miss his goodness, gentlemanliness, sweetness, decency and kindness.
