Bill MacKenzie

Team Fundraising Goal: $1,000.00

My dad, Willam "Bill" Hugh Mackenzie, was an incredible, loving, and hard working man. His laughter was contagious and his compassion was unmeasurable.

On Janury 28, 2003, he took his own life with a gun shot wound to the head.

Bill had worked his way up through the ranks in the US Coast Guard. He won prestigious awards including ones for savings other's lives, putting his own life at risk, and for his volunteer work. The year before his death he received a high honor for the work he did with local youth baseball players.

His death was a shock to all who knew him. He was robust, gregarious, friendly, and seemingly happy. He was married to the love of his life with two wonderful children.

My hope is that my father's death is used to help prevent others from the same fate. For whatever his reasons, he did not seek help nor let on to anyone that he was struggling with severe depression. Perhaps it was the stigma associated with the disease. Regardless, it is my goal that no one suffers the same fate.
