Immediately following the International Association of Peer Supporters (iNAPS) National Conference
Plus optional Course Facilitator Training: Sunday, October 19, 2014
Certificates for 32 hours of peer specialist continuing education will be awarded to participants completing the full 4-day course (additional hours for facilitator trainees for 5 days)
Next Steps is continuing education for peer specialists developed under the SAMHSA-supported national Recovery to Practice initiative. Curriculum modules include:
- The Transforming Power of Recovery
- Effects of Trauma on Recovery
- Dual Diagnosis
- Strengthening Workplace Relationships
- Peer Support Values and Guidelines
- Multicultural Awareness
- Supportive Recovery Relationships
32 hrs.: 24 hrs. on-site plus 8 hrs. pre-work by participants
Course is delivered via a collaborative learning approach.
Training participants must commit to:
- Complete pre-course self-study curriculum (8 hrs.) before Oct. 15, 2014
- Fully participate in all 4 days of on-site training
- Complete a pre- and post-test to demonstrate course participation and subject mastery
Who can participate:
Individuals who have been formally trained and certified as peer specialists in their states or through the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Mental Health Services. Please do NOT apply if you do not meet this standard.
Facilitator trainees only: You must be trained and certified as a peer specialist AND successfully complete the entire 32-hour curriculum in order to participate in facilitator training. This requirement can be fulfilled by attending the Oct. 15-18 course, followed by the Oct. 19 facilitator training course.
