Volunteering with the Balanced Mind Parent Network is a great way to give back or pay it forward help individuals and families affected by mood disorders. It is also an excellent opportunity to sharpen existing skills, learn new ones, and to expand your knowledge about mood disorders, resources, and support for those who need it.
The Balanced Mind Parent Network offers two online volunteer opportunities:
Moderator, Online Support Networks: Prospective volunteers should have 3 or more months of active experience on The Balanced Mind Parent Network, strong communications skills, a working knowledge of pediatric mood disorders. Primary responsibilities for moderators includes guiding parents to resources, ensure that participants follow the support network rules and guidelines so that our groups are safe and supportive, and stay current with posts to verify that questions have been answered by group members or volunteers.
DBSA’s Helpline: Provide one-on-one support by responding to emails and phone calls from peers (individuals affected by disorders). Many are facing a new diagnosis, or are facing specific challenges relating to education, medications, locating clinicians, or just needing to know that they are not alone.
To volunteer as Moderator or with DBSA’s Helpline, please contact Angie Day, Chapter and Volunteer Services Manager, at ADay@DBSAlliance.org.
