Child Mania Rating Scale

The Child Mania Rating Scale (CMRS) is a parent screening instrument for mania, based on DSM-IV symptoms.

Download the CMRS, Parent Version

Interpreting the results of the CMRS, Parent Version:

Parents need to rate the items based on the behavior and emotions in the past month. Then total the score on all items. If it is more than 20, the child or adolescent should see a clinician for a diagnostic evaluation as the rating indicates a high likelihood of current mania or hypomania.

It is important to note:

This is simply a screening tool. Only a qualified health professional can diagnose mania or hypomania. This tool should not be used in place of a consultation with a health professional. Regardless of the results of this screen, if you have any concerns, see your doctor or mental health professional.

This screening is not a substitute for professional care. DBSA does not endorse or recommend the use of any specific treatment for mood disorders.
